TOPIC 5: MEMORY,IMPROVING CONCENTRATION AND READING SYSTEM
Hello everyone! So today I'm going to share with you what is the most important to improving our skills in this chapter. This topic is memory, improving concentration and reading system aims to enable student to understand the basic process of memory and apply the memory skills in their learning.

THE REASONS HOW FORGETTING COULD OCCUR
- Don't pay attention to the information.
- Don't understand the information
- Cramming
- Don't have good strategies
- Interference
- Test anxiety
HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY
1. Massed practice vs spaced practice
* massed practice (not good) - cramming, involved studying all the materials at one time. Do not have to understand, remember, and organize the reading materials (Reason: short term memory (STM) cannot sustain many information at one time)
* Space practice (good, recommended)- involves space time over some period of time for studying. Spaced practice or distributed practice allows time for the information to consolidate in the long-term memory. Taking breaks between learning sessions allow you to think and organize the informatrtion.
2. Break reading material down
(again no cramming) for some period of time e,g 2 chapters per day, not all chapters a day before exam.
3. Rehearsal
Repeat the information many times e.g repeat a telephone number 10 times.
4. Elaboration strategies
👉Association *connect* each word or event with a person, places, thing, feeling , or situation .
👉 Acronyms/ catchwords : MAS- Malaysian Airlines System , UiTM- Universiti teknologi MARA

STUDENT ACTIVITY
1. I will use active learning strategies which is I will using SQ3R
SURVEY – I will get a research first about what my lecturer give the title that we will study soon.
QUESTION – I will always make a question while reading so that I will understand about that title.
READ – I will always read the paragraph to find the informations and the answer of the question.
RECITE – answer the question that you formulated. Recite the answer on your own word without looking at the text.
REVIEW – look at your answer and the text and ask what your text is focusing about. Recalling the question and try to answer the question again. Recheck it until you get the same answer again.
